Project scope

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has commissioned the review of the MAR Maritime Training Package. The project covers the review of Maritime Operations qualifications to incorporate the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s (AMSA) certification requirements and strengthen assessment requirements.

Deliverables

The qualifications being reviewed in this project include:

 

Near Coastal

  • MAR50613 Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Engineering Class 3 Near Coastal)
  • MAR40518 Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 Near Coastal)

Blue Water

  • MAR60215 Advanced Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Engineering Class 1)
  • MAR60115 Advanced Diploma of Maritime Operations (Marine Engineering Class 2)
  • MAR50115 Diploma of Maritime Operations (Engineer Watchkeeper)

 

Timeline

The Case for Endorsement is expected to be submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee by 31 March 2020.

A Technical Advisory Committee will be formed to provide expertise for this work. If you have any questions about this project, or are a subject matter expert and would like to be considered for the TAC for this project, please contact the Industry Manager.

Stakeholder feedback on draft training materials will be sought as part of the development phase of work.

Feedback on draft materials closed on Wednesday, 18 September 2019 for consideration by the TAC.

 

Feedback will be collated and discussed at the next TAC meeting.

VIEW PROPOSED CHANGES

 

Summary of development

 

Draft units, skill sets and/or qualifications are developed in consultation with Subject Matter Experts and industry stakeholders.

 

Initial drafting of Training Package material (Units of Competency, Skill Sets and/or qualifications) is being undertaken by a Technical Advisory Committee established by the IRC. Comprising people with diverse expertise and experience in Maritime Operations, it has ensured that the draft Units are informed by the needs of industry.

FINAL DRAFT CASE FOR ENDORSEMENT

 

The draft Maritime Training Package materials have undergone independent edit and quality assurance.

 

The Case for Endorsement is scheduled to be submitted to the AISC in March 2020.

Endorsement

The Maritime Training Package (Release 6.0) has been endorsed for implementation.

 

The approved Maritime Training Package Release 6.0 is now available on training.gov.au

 

This release includes the below listed projects:

 

MAR Deck Operations (Masters)

MAR Engineering Operations

MAR Leadership Skills

MAR Skills Sets

Approval

 

19 AUGUST 2020

 

The AISC has approved the Maritime Training Package Release 6.0 for referral to the Skills Ministers for endorsement at the 12 August 2020 Meeting.  This release included the following Maritime projects:

    • Maritime AMSA Regulations Phases 2 and 3
    • MAR Engineering Operations
    • MAR Deck Operations (Masters)
    • MAR Leadership Skills
    • MAR Regulatory Skill Sets

 

The following materials were approved and includes:

  • 12 qualifications
  • 107 Units of Competency
  • 15 new Units of Competency
  • 13 new Skill Sets
