Project scope
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has commissioned the review of the MAR Maritime Training Package. The project covers the revision of seven Units of Competency to ensure currency of leadership and management skills for seafarers.

Deliverables
The seven Units of Competency being reviewed are:
- MARG002 Manage a small crew
- MARG006 Manage a vessel and its crew
- MARG003 Manage an engine room and small engineering team
- MARD001 Manage business and administration on vessels limited by tonnage or near coastal operations
- MARD003 Manage legal requirements of a vessel
- MARM001 Apply knowledge of safety management system legal framework in the workplace
- MARF022 Apply maritime resource management principles
Timeline
The Case for Endorsement is expected to be submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee by 31 March 2020

A Technical Advisory Committee will be formed to provide expertise for this work. If you have any questions about this project, or are a subject matter expert and would like to be considered for the TAC for this project, please contact the Industry Manager.
Stakeholder feedback on draft training materials will be sought as part of the development phase of work.

Work on this project has commenced and the Maritime IRC is forming a TAC.
Your industry expertise and insight are welcome to develop a new Maritime Operations Skill Set and Units of Competency.

DRAFT MATERIALS
The TAC has finalised draft materials for this project and would like your feedback.
Feedback on draft materials closed on Wednesday, 18 September 2019 for consideration by the TAC.
Feedback will be collated and discussed at the next TAC meeting.

These Units of Competency are being reviewed in consultation with MAR Maritime Training Package Phase 3.
The TAC is currently working through this revision. Drafts are expected to be available for public consultation in June 2019.
Summary of development
Draft units, skill sets and/or qualifications are developed in consultation with Subject Matter Experts and industry stakeholders.
Initial drafting of Training Package material (Units of Competency, Skill Sets and/or qualifications) is being undertaken by a Technical Advisory Committee established by the IRC. Comprising people with diverse expertise and experience in Maritime Leadership Skills, it has ensured that the draft Units are informed by the needs of industry.

FINAL DRAFT CASE FOR ENDORSEMENT
The draft Maritime Training Package materials have undergone independent edit and quality assurance.
The Case for Endorsement is scheduled to be submitted to the AISC in March 2020.

Endorsement
28 OCTOBER 2020
The Maritime Training Package (Release 6.0) has been endorsed for implementation.
The approved Maritime Training Package Release 6.0 is now available on training.gov.au
This release includes the below listed projects:
The following materials were approved and includes:
- 12 qualifications
- 107 Units of Competency
- 15 new Units of Competency
- 13 new Skill Sets

Approval
19 AUGUST 2020
The AISC has approved the Maritime Training Package Release 6.0 for referral to the Skills Ministers for endorsement at the 12 August 2020 Meeting. This release included the following Maritime projects:

- MAR Engineering Operations
- MAR Deck Operations (Masters)
- MAR Leadership Skills
- MAR Regulatory Skill Sets
Submission
The Case for Endorsement and draft Training Package materials have been submitted to the AISC.
