POL Police Training Package Review and Hazardous Devices Project

Overview

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has commissioned the development of one new Police qualification, the redevelopment of three existing Police qualifications and 21 Police Units of Competency.

The Public Safety Industry Reference Committee (IRC) will have oversight of this project, which will be facilitated by Australian Industry Standards (AIS) in consultation with Police stakeholders. The project covers the transition of one PUA12 Public Safety Training Package qualification into the POL Police Training Package.

Endorsement

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has approved the Police Case for Endorsement for Training Package implementation.

The approved POL Police Training Package Release 2.0 is now available on training.gov.au.

Finalisation

The draft qualifications and Units of Competency have now been through an independent edit and quality assurance process.
The final drafts are now available for viewing. They will be submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) before 23 December for endorsement consideration.

Independent Edit and Quality Assurance

Key Police stakeholders have finalised the Police Training Package Case for Endorsement which includes the Review and Hazardous Devices Cases for Change.

Following an independent edit and quality assurance process, the final draft materials will be sent to the Public Safety Industry Reference Committee (IRC) for approval.

The approved public access drafts will then be available for viewing, prior to being submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for consideration.

Hazardous Devices Project combined with Review Project

The Hazardous Devices Case for Change has been approved and added to the existing Review Project for inclusion into the next release of the POL Police Training Package. The project timeline has consequently been extended and is now expected to be completed by December 2017.

Hazardous Devices Case For Change

A review of the previous Business Case has been undertaken and a new Case for Change has been prepared by the Public Safety Industry Reference Committee (IRC) for consideration by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC).

It is now available for feedback until COB 28 June 2017. This feedback period has closed.

Review Project Commencement

The Public Safety Industry Reference Committee (IRC), in conjunction with Australian Industry Standards (AIS) is currently working with the Australian New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) to transition PUA12 Public Safety Training Package products for inclusion into the next release of the POL Police Training Package. The project is expected to be completed by October 2017.

Review Business Case

A Business Case has been developed by the Public Safety Industry Reference Committee (IRC) setting out the strategic and evidentiary case (including an analysis of the level of industry support) for a partial review of the POL Police Training Package (Release 1.0), inclusive of qualifications, skill sets and units of competency. This is to include:

  • Diploma of Policing
  • Advanced Diploma of Police Supervision
  • Advanced Diploma of Police Investigations
  • Graduate Certificate in Forensic Firearm Examination
  • Advanced Police Investigation Skill Set

The Business Case responds to the Australia New Zealand Council of Police Professionalisation (ANZCoPP) regular review of training requirements in the policing profession, ensuring that the material within the POL Police Training Package is current, relevant and meets the needs of the policing industry.
