TLI Rail Safety Critical Communications

Overview

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has commissioned the Rail Safety Critical Communications Project for the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

The Rail Industry Reference Committee (IRC) will have oversight of this project which will be facilitated by Australian Industry Standards in consultation with Rail industry stakeholders. The project covers the development of a new Unit of Competency and one Skill Set in Rail Safety Critical Communications.

This project will address the skills required for communication protocols for rail safety workers working in the rail corridor. This project will undertake broad stakeholder consultation along with input from the National Track Worker Safety Forum.

PROJECT FINALISATION PHASE

The new Skill Set for Rail Safety Critical Communications has successfully passed independent edit and quality assurance reviews, and is expected to be submitted to the AISC mid-February 2018. This Skill Set, along with the Transport Scheduling Qualification and Road Transport Terminal Operations Qualification (renamed from Yard Operations) and will form Release 4.0 of the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

Independent Edit and Quality Assurance

The TLI Rail Safety Critical Communications TAC finalised the draft Skill Set and Unit of Competency at their last meeting on Wednesday, 8 November 2017.

Following an independent edit and quality assurance process, the final draft materials will be sent to the Rail Industry Reference Committee (IRC) for approval.

The approved drafts will then be available for viewing, prior to being submitted to the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) for consideration.

Consultation on draft materials

The Rail Safety Critical Communications Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) met on Wednesday, 11 October 2017 to finalise development of a draft Unit of Competency and Skill Set for the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

The Rail Safety Critical Communications TAC has completed the final draft Unit of Competency and Skill Set, and these are now available for public feedback.

Consultation on draft materials

The Rail Safety Critical Communications Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) met on Wednesday, 30 August 2017 and have commenced drafting the new unit of competency – Apply safety critical communications in the rail environment.

TAC members will review the draft and provide their feedback at the next TAC meeting proposed for Wednesday, 11 October 2017.
