Maritime Industry Reference Committee (IRC)
The Maritime IRC is made up of industry leaders and experts and acts as a conduit between the Maritime industry and the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC).
The Maritime industry is vital to the Australian economy in the provision of import and export of goods, as well as tourism and other value added activities as ten per cent of the world’s sea trade passes through Australian ports and over 95 per cent of Australian exports are transported by sea.
The Maritime IRC are responsible for ensuring the MAR Maritime Training Package meets the needs of the industry and provides nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications for occupations involved in:

Steven Moon
Maritime Industry Reference Committee Chair
Steven Moon OAM is passionate about the VET sector, having joined the navy at 15 as an electrical apprentice and working with power generation and distribution systems aboard many of the Royal Australian Navy’s vessels, leading to a maritime career, including as a ships master and engineer, of more than 40 years.
He is an accomplished Senior Executive accustomed to fast-growing operations in diverse cultural environments, with particular strengths in project management, business development, and vocational and technical training, especially in the maritime sector.
Steven is currently the Managing Director of Projects Global, an independent maritime consultancy providing project management, marine engineering, crew training, audit and compliance services with a particular focus on marine tourism and the domestic commercial vessel sector.
