IRC Skills Forecasts and Industry Outlooks 2020

IRC Skills Forecasts and Industry Outlooks

The draft 2020 IRC Skills Forecasts and Industry Outlooks are now available for download.

The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has changed the annual requirements for Industry Skills Forecasts and Industry Outlooks to a three-year schedule with a brief annual update in the intervening years. The Skills Forecast updates for 2020 will be submitted on behalf of the 11 Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) that AIS supports to the AISC for approval, focusing only on proposed work for this year.

Each IRC is also developing an Industry Outlook to provide an annual update on key trends and information relevant to skills development for the industry sectors they have responsibility for.

These documents are a culmination of an extensive consultation and review process, led by each IRC.

IRCs consult broadly with stakeholders to ensure a whole-of-industry view about the opportunities and challenges for the workforce and the Training Package review work necessary to meet industry needs. The information is then used to develop the four-year IRC Proposed Schedule of Work.

Background

The Industry Reference Committee (IRC) Skills Forecasts are produced annually to report on the industry outlook, new and emerging skills and associated training needs for each sector.

Development Process

Each IRC sets the direction of research and analysis activities while continuing to review and consider industry feedback throughout the IRC Skills Forecast and Industry Outlook development process, which includes:

  • A Call for Submissions process inviting stakeholder responses about key issues affecting skills and workforce development
  • An IRC Skills Forecast Survey seeking information on priority skill needs, skill shortages and issues relating to workforce training.
  • A comprehensive review of Data and Research Sources nominated by each IRC
