    Project Update

    The Defence Skills project is continuing with the review and development of Training Package products that will support Defence capability building. The projects will now be submitted in two separate releases.

    Review of the following Release 3.0 projects is now complete and the draft material is available for stakeholder review:

    • Defence Chaplaincy
    • Defence Range Control
    • Defence Sensor Operations
    • Military Justice

    The following projects are still in review and development stages and will be submitted as Release 4.0 later this year:

    • Defence Evaluations
    • Simulator Maintenance
    • Defence Work Health and Safety

    Defence Projects Commencement

    Work on the Defence Skills projects have commenced.

    The Public Safety IRC is currently working with the Department of Defence to revise existing qualifications in the DEF Defence Training Package.

    As this material is sensitive in nature, initial requests for access to draft DEF Defence Training Package products is by written application only via email to the Industry Manager.

    The expected submission date for all projects is 30 October 2020.

    The Public Safety Industry Reference Committee (IRC) proposed six projects to review and develop existing DEF Defence Training Package materials, encompassing seven qualifications, two Skill Sets and 56 Defence Units of Competency. The IRC will undertake consultations with Defence industry stakeholders through the project’s duration. Additional consultation will be undertaken on the IRCs behalf with State Training Authorities and other key stakeholders, including seeking public feedback and input into development of material throughout the project’s duration.

    These projects address ongoing Defence capability reviews, wider industry practices, or Defence legislative requirements.

    Discrete projects identified for Training Package review and development work are:

    • Defence Sensor Operations
    • Defence Simulator Maintenance
    • Defence Work Health and Safety
    • Defence Range Control
    • Defence Chaplaincy
    • Defence Evaluations

    The Public Safety IRC will have oversight of this project, which will be facilitated by Australian Industry Standards (AIS) in consultation with industry stakeholders. A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) will be formed for this project.

    Regular updates will be posted on this page throughout the life of the project.
